Of all the types of carving I do, masks are the most
fascinating. Not just because they are comprised of many
types of materials such as wood, animal hide, hair, bone or
feathers, but because they have a very definite and powerful
spirit that comes alive in the making of the piece. For this
reason, not everyone is comfortable with having a mask
displayed on their wall. There are similarities to
masks from other cultures carved at other times in history.

This native-inspired masks is
carved from xxxxxx. The life-like feathers are inserted into
small holes drilled into the top of the mask. Guinea hen
feathers on leather thongs protrude from the mouth of this
piece to symbolize xxxxx. Acrylic paint was then used to
highlight feathers and other features.
This type of mask is modeled
after a xxx people or xxx style.
